A new and more adaptive hybrid Illicium cross between I. floridanum and I. mexicanum, the Orion Star Flower Anise certainly breaks the mold with a low and mounding habit to only 3 ft. tall and 4 to 5 ft. wide and continuous flowering throughout the summer and fall, making it a perfect choice for home foundation plantings and landscape borders. Its abundant 2 to 3 in. star-shaped flowers with green eyes shine like stars against the backdrop of evergreen deep blue-green leaves that have a wonderful anise scent. That said, in full sun the leaves will be more of an olive green color, but still handsome. Extremely adaptable, this hybrid will thrive in moist or dry shade and full sun or shade! What's more, the deer, rabbits and most other pests turn their nose up to it.
